About the Author

Brian James

Brian James has worn a few creative hats over the years. A professional photographer by day (and night), he has captured everything from fleeting moments on stage to grand landscapes on several continents, always chasing the light and a story through his vast collection of lenses. Like many photographers around the world, Brian could definitely be accused of having what photographers lovingly call G.A.S. - that's Gear Acquisition Syndrome and when he's not shooting or filming, he's usually keeping up on the latest technologies in image capture. He lives in Sydney, Australia but has been fortunate enough to have travelled to a host of countries around the world, usually with a camera and tripod in his suitcase.

For many years, he was also a keen musician with a quirky claim to fame: recording at the BBC. Just don't ask him how many albums he sold as that's a subject best left to history. When he is not behind a camera or reminiscing about his rock star days, he can often be found on the Latin dance floor, which is where he met his infinitely better half, Betty.

Storytelling however, has always been simmering in the background. A Time And A Place is just one of many tales that have lived in his imagination since the early days, and now it's time to share some of these adventures with the world. His trio of characters are old friends, full of banter and chaos, and he hopes readers will enjoy the ride as much as he has enjoyed writing it. If you laugh, gasp, or just have a chuckle along the way, then the mission is accomplished. Beyond this multi-part series, Brian is also working on another thriller that he looks forward to releasing soon. Adventure after all, is never in short supply.

The Story

THREE FRIENDS. ONE PORTAL. NO RETURN.

Alex, Tilly, and Max never intended to step through an ancient portal, particularly with no idea when or where it might lead. With no choice in the matter, they find themselves running from certain death and hurled into a destination which feels otherworldly, with a foreign sky and strange creatures. Only a few days later, they're running through a maze of underground catacombs beneath medieval Rome, while a violent, dangerous and power-hungry giant of a man named Luigi Romano hunts them with ruthless ambition.

It's a breathless chase where high stakes meet quick wits and split second ingenuity.

For Alex, it's about keeping his friends alive. For Tilly, it's the greatest adventure of her life. For Max, it's the worst field trip ever, especially when his home-made inventions keep backfiring in spectacular fashion.

Danger, chaos, and laugh-out-loud disasters follow them through every hidden chamber and crumbling passage. Do they have enough flair and resourcefulness to outsmart their powerful enemy, or can they stay one step ahead by using their very own 'future Nobel Prize winner's' whacky inventions to buy time to get away?

Step through the first doorway but be warned because once you begin, there may be no way back.

A Message From Brian

"Thanks for being here and for joining Alex, Tilly, and Max on their wild dash through ancient portals and medieval mayhem.

As my first novel, writing A Time And A Place has been the realisation of a dream for me and right now, your thoughts could make a huge difference.

You see, reader reviews are like oxygen for new books. They help other adventure-seekers discover the series, tell algorithms that this story matters, and give me the fuel to keep writing. Without them, great books quietly disappear into the digital void.

So here's a tiny favor I'm going to ask of you: Could you spare 60 seconds right now?

Seriously, that's all it would take. If you enjoyed the story, head over to your order, click "Write a review," and drop in whatever comes to mind. It might be a couple of sentences, a few words, even just something like "I loved the Obscura-Fogger Mk. III scene!" Every single review counts and yours might be the one that convinces the next reader to take the leap.

The Trio's adventure is just beginning. There are more portals for Tilly to unlock, more of Max's gadgets to misfire spectacularly, and more impossible choices for Alex to make. But I need your help to keep their story alive.

Please consider taking the 60 seconds. Write that short review. Then keep a look out for the next book.

This adventure isn't over. Not even close...

See you on the other side of the next portal!"

Enjoy the adventure? How about Max's gadgets? Want more Tilly wisdom?

Whatever your thoughts, I'd be extremely grateful if you'd share them.
